Certain numbers instantly define sports history. In this original series, artist Tom Mosser transforms iconic sports numbers into bold, museum-quality paintings—created using actual footballs and basketballs.

Rather than brushes, the ball itself becomes the tool. As it’s pressed and rolled across the canvas, authentic details are embedded directly into the artwork—dimples, seams, laces, logo transfers, and even air-pump marks. These textures aren’t added later; they’re the natural result of the game shaping the art.

The series began with Penn State–inspired numbers, celebrating Nittany Lion legends and moments in Happy Valley. It now expands to include NFL and NBA icons, where legendary numbers transcend teams and eras.

Each piece is part of Tom’s signature Sports Ball Impressionism technique—an original art form commissioned for college programs, NFL stadiums, and NBA arenas nationwide. While rooted in sports culture, these works are created as true fine art, designed for collectors and fans alike.
