The Nittany Lion Shrine
Fine Art Prints from the Original Painting by Tom Mosser
The rock of Penn State.
For generations of Penn Staters, the Nittany Lion Shrine has been more than a landmark. It has stood through decades of arrivals and graduations, football Saturdays, reunions, celebrations and countless photographs. Students come and go. The Lion remains.
Pittsburgh artist and Penn State alumnus Tom Mosser wanted this painting to capture that history.
Created with layer upon layer of paint—much of it applied with palette knives—the original 36" × 48" painting was designed to feel almost sculptural, as though the Lion had been carved into the canvas rather than simply painted upon it.
The surrounding landscape is loose and energetic while the Lion remains massive, quiet and grounded—a guardian of generations of Penn State memories while looking toward those still to come.
Museum-Quality Fine Art Prints
Each print is locally produced in Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh Print Ship using archival-quality materials for beautiful, long-lasting color. Prints are personally signed by Tom Mosser. Each print is personally signed and individually hand-embellished by Tom, who adds touches of paint directly to the print—giving every piece its own unique character.
Print Options
Archival paper prints are available in multiple sizes. Un-stretched canvas prints include extended borders and guide marks for professional stretching. Mounted canvas prints are available for local pick-up at his studio in Etna.
Because texture is such an important part of the original artwork, the canvas version is especially effective at capturing the layered, sculptural feeling of the painting.
