WE ARE — Penn State Football Impressionism

Few phrases capture the pride, unity and tradition of Penn State quite like “WE ARE.”

In this bold piece of Penn State wall art, artist Tom Mosser transforms the iconic words into a contemporary work created using something very appropriate—an actual Penn State football.

Using his signature Football Impressionism technique, Tom applies paint with the football itself, pressing, rolling and working the ball across the surface. Look closely and you’ll discover the physical fingerprints of the game embedded throughout the artwork—dimples, seams, laces, impressions from the football graphics and even the air-pump hole appearing within the layers of paint.

Nothing is stamped or added afterward. The football actually makes the marks.

The result is a piece that looks simple and graphic from across the room, but reveals an entirely different level of texture and detail when viewed up close. It’s part painting, part printmaking—and unmistakably Penn State football.

Tom’s sports artwork has been commissioned for NFL stadiums and NBA arenas nationwide through stadium art curator Sports & the Arts. This Penn State edition brings that same large-scale sports-art approach home to Happy Valley.

Each reproduction is personally signed and hand-embellished by Tom, adding individual painted details so no two are exactly alike.
